Adaptations Fitter & Handyperson
We’re recruiting a capable Adaptations Fitter & Handyperson to join our team helping older people and people with disabilities to maintain their dignity and independence, and live safely and well at home.
This role involves working across our home adaptations service in Islington, visiting service users at home to install disability aids and adaptations, and our new pilot handyperson service which we will be trialling in 2024/25. Please read the job description and person specification for details of the role.
We’re looking for an individual who has good communication skills, empathy and the ability to build trust with vulnerable people, as well as the ability to adapt to working in a diverse range of environments. Following initial training, you’ll mostly work independently with remote supervision and support from your manager, the Senior Trusted Assessor and Adaptations Fitter.
You’ll need to have practical experience using power tools (ideally in a professional work environment), and be competent securely fixing items such as stair and support rails into many different substrates, whilst maintaining a diligent approach to health and safety.
Success in this role may open up the possibility later of training to become a recognised Trusted Assessor.
The role is initially offered for 2.5 days a week (0.5 FTE) at £27,398 pro rata per annum, and will involve shared use of a company van. For this reason, two days should be worked between Monday and Wednesday, and 0.5 days worked on Thursday mornings in order to overlap with other team members.
Pending an assessment of the development and impact of the new handyperson service, there may be an opportunity in 6-12 months to increase hours to accommodate what we hope will be increasing demand.
If you would like to apply for this role, please submit a completed job application form to jobs@mrsindependentliving.org. We will be interviewing on a rolling basis, so please submit your application as soon as possible.
Before you apply, please feel free to contact Fiona Berry (Assistant Director) at fiona.berry@mrsindependentliving.org if you would like to have an informal chat about the role and discuss your availability.
